Although already one of London’s largest outdoor festivals, Southwark’s event season lacked a distinctive, memorable brand that unified all that was happening. Wire was commissioned to correct this, thanks to its extensive work in the public sector branding.
After renaming the season ‘Southwark Live’, a brand identity system rooted in bold, typographic, information delivery was created. The identity is distinguished by a highlighting system based on abstracted flags, developed to allow text to be legible over a variety of images. This helped capture the vibrance of events whilst maintaining accessibility. The simple, flexible system created a distinctly Southwark Live aesthetic and simultaneously allowed for the individual personality of each event.
The identity was applied to all manner of mediums, including a calendar-programme, event posters and leaflets amongst others.
The launch of the identity coincided with an increase in attendance and awareness.
