Newham London

Exhibition design

Newham sits at the centre of traditional East End London. West Ham Football Club, City Airport, the Excel Exhibition Centre and new international rail links all lie within its boundaries. In 2012, Newham will be the host borough for the Olympic games.

As Olympic hosts, Newham were invited as delegates to the Beijing Games. Wire was brought in to help the organisation communicate the dynamism, youthfulness and opportunities in the area.

The original idea to give Newham a clear ‘new’ brand position on the London stage came from Julia Corkey. By simply emphasising the word ‘new’ in Newham with an under-line, Wire was able to create two messages from one simple phrase without breaking any of the words. The supporting visual elements are derived from fireworks, sparks, light and energy, and a splash of water that reflects the new ‘water city’ plan that underpins much of the regeneration.

Wire went on to write, design and produce an easy to read booklet, exhibition stands and film.

“I greatly appreciate all the effort you each put in, it certainly made my job easier. The feedback the stand has received has been excellent, so well done on creating a brilliant looking stand, and one that held a really great atmosphere, which is hard to do with an exhibition stand.”
