Back to topSelected Projects — Newham Election
Newham is a diverse and ‘disjointed’ borough. Informing local people about elections can be difficult enough in the first place but on the 10 May 2010 they faced a more complicated problem. Newham were holding the mayoral elections, council elections and the general elections all on the same day. To make it even more confusing... the voting procedure for each election is different.
Wire were tasked with developing an awareness and information campaign that would increase turnout, improve understanding and assist voters with the practical information to reduce spoilt ballot papers.
The result... a no-nonsense, multi-layered, cross media campaign with the lead message ‘One Day -Three Votes’. Part one created awareness and started to introduce the notion of different elections, part two started to explain the process in more detail and part three gave clear, picture led instructions for voters that were used in community locations and in the polling booths on the day.
The result... a dramatically increased turnout, and a reduction in spoilt ballot papers across all polling stations in the area.
