L'Autre Pied is a new London restaurant based in Marylebone. It was set-up in 2008 by David Moore and Shane Osborne of Pied-à-Terre fame. Their objective was simple - to take a young, talented chef, Marcus Eaves, and give him a restaurant with a distinctive, high-quality menu and style but with a more relaxed atmosphere.
After the ‘Great mutual understanding that was developed' and the success of Pied-a-Terre, David approached Wire to design the new, identity for their venture.
Wire created a new visual language that is fundamentally a modern, minimal take on a typically French Aesthetic - Art Nouveau. This is a reflection of the restaurant , which serves modern French cuisine in unfussy surroundings. The logo references French Poster calligraphy whilst elegant, minimal swirls are inspired by early 20th century Art Nouveau iron grillwork.
The identity was applied in detail to all of the restaurant's most important elements from signage and menus through to receipts and the website.
As well as helping turn a previously unprofitable business into a highly profitable one, the identity has contributed to a number of successes. Since opening it has won Time Out's best new restaurant and runner-up for best design, BMW Square Meal's best new restaurant. In February 2009, just a year after opening, L'Autre Pied was awarded its first Michelin star.
