Kyoto Design challenge

The Helen Hamlyn Institute invited John to Kyoto, Japan, to work with ten leading designers from companies such as Nissan, Panasonic, Toyota and Sony. Their challenge was to spend the day with an 'extreme user' called Keiko and develop an understanding of her everyday needs and desires. From this, the team was required to design a solution to make a significant difference to the way she lived her life.

The outcomes of the 48 Hour Inclusive Design Challenge was presented as the finale of the International Universal Design Conference.
