Sustainability Works software

Launched in 2002, Sustainability Works is now the industry standard software for sustainable housing development.

Designed and developed by Wire in partnership with the National Housing Federation, Housing Corporation, BRE and WWF, Sustainability Works is helping housing professionals to:

• write robust sustainable development policies
• set and monitor realistic sustainability targets for their projects
• make rapid BRE EcoHomes predictions on specific schemes.

Wire worked closely with housing specialists, Jane Gosnell, Jon Broome and Susan Venner plus organisations such as Hyde Housing, Crest Nicholson and Regional Development Agencies to develop, write and refine the application.

By the start of 2005 over 1,800 organisations were using Sustainability Works to help them develop sustainable housing. As well as developing the tool Wire also took responsibility for marketing, user support, software support and training programmes.

Following the success of Sustainability Works, Wire is now working with WWF, the BRE and Regional Development Agencies to create a planning checklist for planners and developers. The new application went live in June 2006.
