The Refugee Council approached Wire to help them create a major publicity campaign to attract new members. As the UK's largest charitable organisation working with asylum seekers and refugees, The Refugee Council wanted to combat the lies and myths perpetuated by the media.

Our campaign, Don't Believe the Type - Asylum is a Human Right, confronted these ideas head-on. Don’t Believe the Type changed the passive image of the organisation - informing and encouraging the next generation of members to engage in the issues politically.

The introduction pack included t-shirts, stickers, pin badges and a DVD. The application form even doubled as a usable stencil encouraging the new audience to take action. An online toolkit enabled the new members to initiate further campaigning to contest the current myths.

Following its launch at the 2005 Glastonbury Festival, The Refugee Council signed up 1,500 new members in just two weeks. The campaign also attracted national media coverage on BBC Television and in The Guardian.
